社会保険労務士制度は、企業の需要に応え、労働社会保険関係の法令に精通し、適切な労務管理その他労働社会保険に関する指導を行い得る専門家の制度です。
少子・高齢化時代を迎え、事業主は、法律により定年を60歳以上に設定することが義務づけられ、定年後も65歳までの再雇用の努力が求められています。
社会保険や労働に関しての法律は複雑で、社労士の知識は多くの会社で評価されます。
この制度は、労働・社会保険に関する法令の円滑な実施を図り、事業の健全な発達と労働者等の福祉の向上を目的とした社会保険労務士法（昭和43年6月3日法律第89号）により定められています。
また、定年後の生活設計なども今後の重要な課題となってきています。さらに、女性の職場進出に伴い、女性の能力を如何に活用するかが企業の主要な要素となってきており、いわゆる男女雇用機会均等法でも、そのための具体的な指針が示されています。
社会保険労務士とは、社会保険労務士法に基づき、毎年一回、厚生労働大臣が実施する社会保険労務士試験に合格し、かつ、2年以上の実務経験のある者で、全国社会保険労務士会連合会に備える社会保険労務士名簿に登録された者をいいます。
一方、働く人の意識も近年大きく変化し、職務内容や勤務形態も個人ごとに異なった希望を持つようになってきています。したがって、従来のような一律の人事・労務管理では対応できなくなって、多くの企業では新しい時代にマッチしたヒトの管理をするために、就業規則の見直し、年俸制、職能給等の導入など賃金体系の変更、能率を上げるための労働時間制や働き方をすることなどが求められています。
社労士の仕事は「社会保険労務士法」の第１条、第２条で定められています。
平成18年現在、社会保険労務士は全国で約30,000人、社会保険労務士法人会員は、約180法人です。
年金の相談や手続きの相談は、個人的に市の社会保険事務所に聞いても教えてくれるという事もあり。
